Year 1 had a fantastic time celebrating their Marvellous Me WOW Day! Each class had a special visitor who shared their family tree before the children got to make their own! The fun continued as they crafted photo frames and family puppets using their special photographs from home. We were amazed by how they brought family life to life through role-play and small world activities.

Diversity day 2024 has been a huge success. How lovely it has been to find out a bit more about our school community and the different cultures and traditions associated with our children and parents. We would like to say an enormous thank you to the large number of parents who spent the afternoon in school sharing information from their diverse backgrounds and for making and sharing different traditional food. We have been on a journey around the world from the comfort of our classrooms. The children loved having you in school and we have all learnt lots about each other, helping to develop tolerance and understanding of each other.

To end Receptions topic this term of 'caring for living things' we were lucky enough to meet some real life pets. The children had the opportunity to meet a cute kitten, a fluffy spaniel and an enormous Great Dane in their classrooms. They were inspired to ask the owners questions about how they take care of their pet. The children were all brave and even got to stroke the animals. It was an amazing morning, we had so much fun!

Wow! What a successful storytelling event we have had. We are thrilled with how many parents volunteered to be a Secret Storyteller. It was a great turn out, we know many of you were very nervous and it was your first experience of reading to a whole class – although you were all AMAZING!! The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed having you in their class and sharing stories. We would like to thank you for helping us to inspire children and develop their love of reading. Everyone is a reader!

Darran Carter ( Social Value & Communities Manager for WISE working with Luton Borough Council) joined us today for an assembly to reinforce the importance of litter collecting and keeping our environments clean and tidy. He then joined some of our Year 1 children for a Litter pick around the school grounds. What an important message to spread to our community!

It was lovely to see a great number of children returning to school with their entries for the 'My winter park' Geography project. It was evident from all of our entries lots of human and physical features were replicated using recycled materials; to promote recycling which helps protect our environment and our future. Our Travel Titans had the pleasure of selecting a winner from each year group and awarding prizes and certificates to all entrants in assembly. Well done to everyone that entered! Winners: Zainab - Year 2 Oriana - Year 1 Aizah - Reception These children won for their creativity of their winter parks, giving lots of careful planning to designing and sourcing materials. We really loved the extra features such as a frozen lake and slides made out of straws. We could notice the child involvement and the range of different everyday materials being recycled!

Year 2 were lucky enough to take part in the Flat Stan workshop. They learnt how they could help someone in a medical emergency. They learnt vital lifesaving skills such CPR, hymnic manoeuvre and even how to help a friend if they’ve broken your arm. Remember if you ever need emergency assistance call: 999, 112, 111 or 101 and tell them your emergency and where you are.

The children had a fantastic time learning all about Australia during our Arts Week. Throughout the week, children had the opportunity to learn some interesting geographical and historical facts about Australia, take part in the Aboriginal dance workshop and eat Australian food. The children also learnt about Aboriginal art, made a boomerang, collaged the Sydney Opera House and made coral reef diorama. Thank you to all the parents for supporting the children by visiting our Art exhibition.

Year 2 had an online call from the Marine Conservation Society to learn about the impact of marine litter. They found out how long it takes for different packaging and litter takes to decompose. They created journey cards to show how the litter we drop travels to the rivers and seas. The children created informative posters to teach others about the importance of recycling, linking to our theme this half term ‘Environment Matters.’ Did you know nappies take 500 years to decompose!

Who did we find in the pet carrier? For their WOW Day, Year 1 had to predict which creature had arrived in their classrooms. Their new topic book ‘Leaf’ hinted it was a ‘’white creature’’, that ‘’stomped’’ and was ‘‘feared’’ by other animals. They enjoyed a carousel of activities which included using transient art to create a habitat, draw and paint the hidden creature using earth tones and created lost posters to distribute around the school. We can’t wait to find out why the white bear washed up on the edge of the wild wood and into our classrooms!

For their Fantastic Finish, Year 1 had an exciting morning of immersing themselves in winter and animal activities in their classrooms before having a special visit from Teaching Talons! They got to have fun encounters with lots of animals such as millipedes, polecats, a hedgehog, an owl and even got to see Chip the dog perform tricks! It was lovely seeing our Year 1s making links with their new learning about nocturnal animals and how we use our senses.

Last week our school took part in Road Safety Week 2023, raising awareness for @brakecharity. Nursery learnt about the importance of wearing seatbelts, Reception learnt about holding hands when walking near roads and Years 1 and 2 learnt about how to cross roads safely. They spent the week discussing key concepts for their role-play activities, learnt songs and created postcards for a friend. Always remember to stop, look and listen out for moving vehicles!

Odd socks day was on Monday 13th November. This is a day that schools take part in to promote anti bullying and tolerance of us all being unique. Lots of us, staff included, wore odd socks on this day and had activities in class to promote anti bullying, friendship and tolerance.

Our School Council children joined our Time for Tea guests to share what they have learnt about Remembrance Sunday and they sold poppies. Nursery Rhyme Week is also approaching so the younger children sang some songs with actions. It wasn't long before our guests joined in the fun! The tea ended as usual with a quiz!

Year 1 arrived to school wearing their pyjamas for their WOW day! They enjoyed making pizzas, creating sleeping masks, making friendship bracelets and snuggling together with their cuddly toys ready for their class movie. It was lovely seeing lots of children sharing their storybooks from home with their friends. They can't wait to join Orion on his adventure to conquer his fears...

Year 2 children have taken part in a dance workshop for their fantastic finish for their focus book ‘The Squirrels Who Squabbled’. Children transformed into the main characters Cyril and Bruce, thinking carefully about their movements and emotions they had read in the book. They worked collaboratively to create a dance sequence and were able to perform it in partners at the end of the session. Fantastic "Squabbling" year 2!

For our Fantastic finish, Year 1 had their Great Ferrars Bake off 2023! They wished their alien friend Beegu a safe farewell as she returned home to her family. They wrote traditional playground songs for her, built spaceships and made chocolate toothpaste tarts for Beegu to enjoy with her family. As only one tart could be taken to space, our judges had to decide on a winner. Well done to Turquoise class for making the tastiest tart!

We celebrated harvest with some super assemblies this week. We are very proud of the children for putting on such fabulous performances in just a few short weeks of starting the school year. Thank you to the families and staff for their kind donations of food. All donations are very much appreciated especially as many families are turning to food banks themselves in these incredibly tough times. Contributions will be split between Luton's Food Bank and Womens Aid.

Our catering company 'Relish' held a successful tasting session for Parents on the playground after school yesterday. This gave parents a chance to sample some foods offered on our current menus. Don't forget all children at the Academy are entitled to a free school lunch. Why waste money on packed lunches?

Some selected children from Year 2 were fortunate to be taken to Icknield Primary school today to watch a Pippi Longstocking show. They joined other children from Year 2 and 3 from Luton schools. It was performed and supported brilliantly by Sophie, Matt and Cam from the Danyah Miller Storyteller company. The children behaved impeccably and were engaged throughout. The show has hopefully inspired their own storytelling and drama skills.

For year 2's WOW day the children had an exciting introduction to squirrels and forest life. The children had an informative and engaging talk from the 'Reclaiming Reds' trust. The speaker taught the children all about the significance of the mischievous characters Cyril and Bruce from our new topic book. The children worked together to create artwork and binoculars for our fantastic squirrel hunt!

Year 1 started their WOW day with a blast from Space! A spaceship crashed on our school playground but no-one was inside! We are excited to find out who arrived and what they look like... We enjoyed constructing rockets, designing our own aliens, creating new planets and space buggies. What a fantastic start to the year we are having!

We had a stall at the Lewsey Festival again this year and children represented the school by singing songs for the community to listen to. The event this year recognised the birthday of the NHS and the 75th Windrush anniversary.

Year R Trip to Whipsnade Zoo 11th Jul 2023

Reception had a fantastic time at the zoo. They loved spotting and watching all of the animals they have learned about this year. They particularly enjoyed eating their picnic lunch with a view. The children used maps to navigate their way around and find the animals they wanted to see. Some children even copied the animal movements and noises, standing on one leg like a flamingo, making noises like the chimpanzees and some even snored like the rhinos on the way home! What a lovely end to our school year.

On Monday, Year One ventured out on their end of year trip to Herrings Green Activity Farm. We learnt about a wide variety of birds of prey and even got to have a go at flying a barn owl. We watched a spectacular flying display where we saw an African Fishing Eagle and a hawk. We were amazed at the swooping and diving of the eagle to catch its prey. We then enjoyed feeding some of the goats, they were so greedy! We also got to hold and pet a corn snake, Madagascan hissing cockroach and a spurd tortoise. We had so much fun learning about so many animals!

Nursery Trip to Aldenham Country Park 5th Jul 2023

The children have had a fantastic adventure in the woods at Aldenham Country Park yesterday. This half term we have been learning about positional language, sequencing and routes. We put this into practice by following a map to discover the homes of Winnie the Pooh and his friends. During our adventure we came across a wonderful woodland play area and challenged ourselves by climbing and balancing on the logs. Some of us were very sleepy after our fantastic day out in the woods!

On Sunday 28th May we participated in the Luton International Carnival for the first time. The sun was shining and the atmosphere was brilliant. The children danced to the music wearing the amazing costumes they had designed and made with the help of the staff at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts. We loved every minute of it! Lastly, a big thank you to TUI for sponsoring us and providing the children with gift bags.

On Saturday 13th May we held our Annual Lewsey Park Litter Pick. What a turnout! We had lots of children and their families gather at the park to do their part for the local community. The children received a litter picker and bin bag and wandered around Lewsey Park seeking out any litter they could find. The park is a much safer and cleaner place for us and the local wildlife thanks to your efforts. You are all fantastic Eco Warriors!

On Friday 3rd March, we ‘Dressed up for Digits’ and raised £274.80 for NSPCC. The children looked amazing in their number inspired costumes. Throughout the day the children took part in lots of maths themed took part challenges designed to stretch mathematical skills and thinking. Congratulations to the winners of ‘decorating the hundred square’. We hope you had fun playing the board games you have won! Well done to Abdur Rafi in Year 2, Athini in Year 1, Stefania in Reception and Diana in Nursery.

On Tuesday, Year one said 'hola' to their new topic Marvellous Mexico. We immersed ourselves in to Mexican culture by cooking, tasting and trying burritos and quesadillas, listening to popular Mexican music, reading about influential people from Mexico and learning all about the Geography of Mexico. We even learnt some Spanish!

This half term year 2 are looking at a new book called the Space Tortoise. For their WOW day they were introduced to the idea of 'Space'! They participated in a dance workshop in which they learned about astronauts, aliens and planets. They were encouraged to be creative and move like astronauts and aliens. They worked individually and collaboratively and were able to appraise each others efforts.

What a Journey we had! Each year group focused on the book Journey by Aaron Becker, our journey into this wordless book started on the Monday morning when we came into school dressed ready for an adventure. The staff and adults were immersed in the book throughout the week, making predictions and storytelling. Along with many other cross-curricular activities learning about castles and airships. Throughout the week parents and carers were invited in to tell stories together and we even had a few secret storytellers arrived. The week finished with the deadline for our competition, children were challenged to write or create a story with the title Journey. We were overwhelmed by the amount of children who entered the competition! Each child has been rewarded with their own journal and magic red pen to continue the magic of the week. The overall winners were Harris (Year 2), Sara (Year 1) and Katie (Reception). Well done to everyone for such an enjoyable week!

For their Fantastic finish, Year 2 had worked collaboratively to design and create a recycling robot for sorting recyclable waste. They were able to demonstrate their knowledge of marine litter and the impact it has on marine life by presenting their recycling robots to a panel of judges. The winning groups were selected from each year class and were awarded certificates and a prize in assembly.
