Some children in Year 2 have been selected to become a ‘Reader Leader.’ This is due to their extensive reading ability and comprehension skills.
The Reader Leaders listen to a child from a Reception class read once a week. This helps the child in Reception to improve their skills in reading and aids in developing their understanding. The Reader Leader supports with sound and word recognition as well as asking questions. This supports the development of the Reader Leader as this requires deeper thinking about the type of question to ask and how to phrase it.
The Reader Leaders really enjoy this responsibility and are always eager to participate in their reading session. They often comment on how well their reading partner is doing. These sessions are beneficial to both children.
