Sports Premium
At The Ferrars Academy, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
The Sport’s Premium Funding enables us to continue and extend our provision by employing additional sports professionals through various workshops, taking part in local sports festivals and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.
What is the Sports Premium?
Sport Premium funding was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The Funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport (DFE, DH and DCMS)
At the Ferrars Academy we have £17,600 in funding to meet the aims of these Departments for this academic year.
The Department for Education wants all pupils to be healthy, active and to engage in sport and physical activity, gaining a positive experience from a young age to create a lifelong habit of participation.
The Department of Health is focusing on the Childhood Obesity Plan, which aims to reduce childhood obesity significantly within the next 10 years by committing to double the sports Premium and to recommend that all children receive 60 minutes of physical activity a day, half of which should be delivered in schools and the other half should be done as a family outside of school time.
The Department for Culture Media and sport wants all children from 5yrs to 18yrs to be engaged in sports beyond the curriculum.
Our action plan is drawn up to meet all these requirements. In it we ensure that:
- we promote physical skilfulness and physical development.
- we give a stimulating, enjoyable and appropriately challenging learning experience
- children work as individuals, in pairs or take part in group activities.
- children are encouraged to use their problem-solving skills and their growth mindset with a ‘Believe you can’ attitude.
- children are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to be aware of the factors that affect our health and fitness.
